Shipping Insurance
Navidium and Insurance are two different services/products. We recommend BOTH when we are handling your ECU for your complete protection.
Shipping your ECU for a service? It is highly recommend to insure that shipment both ways. What's the difference between the Navidium Protection added at checkout? Let us explain everything below and if you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out before placing your order, we are always happy to help!
When performing a service the ecu is shipped twice, once from your location to our facility, then from our facility back to you. When you ship your ecu on from your local USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc you can choose to insure your items at that time, this is completely your responsibility to add insurance to the package that leaves your location and is destined to arrive at our facility. But you may also want to insure that package when it is on it's way back to you. Burton Racing is an FOB type business and all responsibility is on the shipping company to ensure it's safe arrival after we hand it off to them. This insurance purchase allows us to insure your package for its transit from our facility to your delivery location, just as you did for the first leg of it's journey.
Why add Insurance? The package, ecu, or contents being sent to us may be worth much more than the service/parts Navidium Protection estimated to cover on the original order. IE: You purchased an $80.00 service but sent us a $900.00 ECU to perform that service on. Navidium is only protecting the items in your cart at checkout, not the ECU.
Why doesn't Navidium protect my ecu? The protection available at checkout is designed to cover the parts purchased and their calculated cost. It does not calculate the cost of your ecu into that coverage which is why protection is cheap on an ecu service, as it only calculates the protection cost based on the service or item amount. Meaning a $45.00 service has very low protection costs as it believes the entire shipping value is $45.00 and now when we add an ecu into that the theoretical value rises drastically above $1,000. However Navidium is ONLY protecting that $45.00 purchase value, NOT the additional value of your ecu or 3rd party components sent in for that service to be performed.
Do i need both Navidium and Insurance? It is recommended to have both if you want complete coverage of all items. Once again Navidium protects your order value, meaning the items you purchased from us. Insurance covers the value of the item's you ship to us. If your package is lost or damaged and you purchased $80.00 in parts, Navidium only protects that $80.00 value. NOT the additional value of the ecu or parts shipped to us, that is what insurance does, it protects those other items that did not have any value estimated at checkout, it covers the items you send to us.
Please note this insurance purchase covers shipments from our facility to your location ONLY. If you want to have insurance when you ship us your package you will need to purchase that separately with your logistics company.
